Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 3:6-13
Sermon: "Doing What Is Right"
Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 3:6-13
Sermon: "Doing What Is Right"
Sometimes we out-think ourselves; not that thinking is a bad thing! Critical thinking is a crucial part of human integrity; otherwise, we end up creating our own truth ("alternative truth"). And sometimes we don’t “think;” we rationalize and justify what we’ve already decided (or what we assume) to be the truth.
But sometimes it simply is what it is. That's the case with the biblical concept of justice and righteousness. You read that right: the word, concept, was singular, the labels were plural. That's because in the Bible the words translated justice and righteousness come from the same root and mean pretty much the same thing: "Doing What Is Right."
There's nothing in the scriptural vocabulary of justice that requires punishment or retribution; although, restitution is sometimes the right thing to do. I'll try to flesh out this idea Sunday morning.
We invite you to join us in worship, either in person or on You Tube (Jim Robinson - YouTube), or you can view the recorded service later on this website--just click on the "Worship Videos" link at the left of the page. You also can view past worship services on the same page of this website.
If you prefer reading (as I often do), and/or want to check out the footnotes that credit and document my sources, click on "Sermon Manuscripts" on the left margin of this page.
We also have an active Sunday School program for all ages! Visit our Christian Education page to see what's going on this semester!
I look forward to greeting you soon, hopefully face-to-face, but virtually, if necessary!
Together in the Walk,
Pastor Jim
